Coach Profile

Frank - Ferenc Szekely

How did you get into coaching?

I have always felt that it is there. When I watched the movie of Karate Kid, I wanted to be the master. Same with Star Wars and Yoda, or the Matrix with Morpheus. Enjoying transferring my skills is my thing. Have started some holiday camps at Hungary and also some 121's at my early 20's. After the move, I've had to requalify for coaching and now I have 5 years of experience here and hold a UKCC Level 3 qualification.

How would you describe your own coaching philosophy?

When I moved from Hungary to Warrington, on my 2nd day, I was on the court with locals, barely spoke any English. But we could communicate and had good laughs because we speak "badminton" well. My mission is to show people how to enjoy this sport and also for the very few how to fight on court with the full of their hearts.

Who is your sporting idol and why?

I am kinda old school at this, but I fell in love with Indonesian style badminton when Hendrawan Silva, Taufik Hidayat and Tony Gunawan played at their best. Most of my techniques/tactics come from these players.

Favourite badminton shot :

Backhand smash and defensive counter attacks, as it is surprising! Mehhehe. :)
